How Does Fish Farming Affect Nature?
Our fish are farmed in open net pens in lakes and rivers that have become nutrient-poor due to regulated water flows for hydropower production. In these waters, phosphorus levels have dropped dramatically or become completely inaccessible to plant and animal life. While emissions are often a concern in fish farming, in our waters the nutrients from the fish actually serve a purpose — they help restore the phosphorus balance in these nutrient-depleted environments.
Environmentally Friendly Transport
To preserve our shared, precious resources, we aim for a balanced production chain with high quality standards at every stage. In addition to monitoring the fish farms, we continuously evaluate our processing facility and transport systems — both internally and to customers — to find the most environmentally sound solutions.
Strict Environmental Regulations Help Us
Fish farming is a sensitive type of production, and the strict environmental regulations in place help guide us in the right direction. Since our goal is to remain and grow sustainably, we must ensure that our expansion is always in harmony with nature. In addition to our own environmental controls, our operations are regularly inspected by the County Administrative Board to ensure compliance with environmental and nature conservation standards
Fish have a unique ability to efficiently convert feed into body mass, and our long-term goal is to reach a 1:1 feed conversion ratio — that is, one kilo of feed becoming one kilo of fish.
